Patients’ Bill of Rights

  1. The patient has the right to considerate and respectful treatment and care.
  2. The patient’s dignity and rights will be upheld for their health and safety.
  3. The patient has the right to obtain from the health department relevant, current and understandable information regarding their diagnosis and treatment.
  4. The patient has the right to participation in decisions regarding their treatment and care.
  5. The patient has the right to accept or refuse treatment to the extent acceptable by law and be informed of the medical consequences of such refusal.
  6. The patient has the right to expect continued care, even if they refuse necessary treatment.
  7. The patient has the right to expect confidentiality of information pertaining to their health care.
  8. The patient and/or their legally designated representative has the right to have access to information contained in the patient’s medical records, within the limits of the law.
  9. The patient has the right to information on their bill of rights and a procedure to file a complaint.
  10. Patients with special needs will be acknowledged and addressed on an individual basis.
