COVID 19 BOOSTER DOSES FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

VERSION 2

09/17/2021

  1. When might BOOSTER vaccines be available?
    1. The FDA is meeting today, 9/17/2021 to approve or deny Pfizer booster doses for those 16 and older.
    2. If the FDA approves, the CDC ACIP committee will be meeting on 09/22/2021 and 09/23/2021 to establish their recommendations to the CDC.  The ACIP committee provides advice and guidance to the Director of the CDC regarding use of vaccines and related agents for control of vaccine-preventable diseases in the civilian population of the United States.
    3. The Director of the CDC would then put out final guidance to vaccine providers.
  2. What are plans for boosters here in Marshall County?
    1. If and/or when booster doses are approved, Marshall County Health Department will be scheduling drive through clinics to begin providing these doses.
    2. As of this point in time, the walk in clinics at the Health Department are for first, second and third (immunocompromised) doses ONLY.
    3. We are unable to safely provide this level of vaccinations here within the Health Department due to space restrictions.
    4. We will be publicizing these clinics on multiple news outlets once planning is complete.
  3. I received Moderna for my first 2 doses, is Moderna going to be approved as a booster?
    1. For today’s meeting, Moderna is not up for approval for a booster.  The Moderna application was submitted after Pfizer and should be reviewed by the FDA shortly.
  4. I received Moderna for my first 2 doses, can I receive Pfizer for my booster?
    1. At this time, we do not have an answer on this.  We may have a better answer next week sometime.
