MARSHALL COUNTY GOES PURPLE

National Recovery Month is held every September to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders, and to celebrate those in recovery for their strength and perserverance.  For these events the color purple has been used to symbolize the struggle taking place in communities across the Country as individuals, families, health care providers, and law enforcement agencies face the growing crisis of opioid abuse.

"Marshall County Goes Purple" is an awareness campaign focused on prevention, treatment, and recovery resources available in the community, and will emphasize the role local agencies play in combating this epidemic.  We strive to promote conversations around the dangers of substance misuse and abuse and encourages the community to take a stand against it.

Scott G. Varner, President of Marshall County Commission, in the state of West Virginia, do hereby proclaim the month of September 2025 to be "Marshall County Goes Purple" in County of Marshall and call upon the people of Marshall County to observe this month with appropriate programs, activities, and ceremonies.  This Commission encourages the community to wear purple, light up your homes or business with purple lights, tie a purple ribbon on your tree, fence or door, make a purple heart display, or get creative and display purple another way.

Join us at the Marshall County Health Department in supporting "Marshall County Goes Purple" and Amanda's Angels for Hope, as well as other entities in the county
